The problem

A legacy till colleagues knew by muscle memory had to be replaced without slowing them down.

The approach

Mapped every legacy task, then rebuilt the flows around the ones that ran hottest.

The outcome

A new experience that felt familiar where it mattered and better everywhere else.

01

Overview

Add a short paragraph of context: what the product is, who it serves and why this work mattered now.

  • Context
  • Scope
  • Constraints

02

The Challenge

Replacing a system people can operate without looking at it means respecting the habits it created.

03

Discovery

Research, stakeholder insights, data and a hard look at the existing experience.

04

Key Insights

  • Insight 01

    Muscle memory is a feature

Keeping key positions stable removed most of the retraining cost.

  • Insight 02

    Edge cases run the shop

The rare journeys were where the legacy till really earned its keep.

  • Insight 03

    Confidence needs feedback

Clear system state mattered more than fewer taps.

05

Opportunity

What did the research tell us? Frame the opportunity as a design brief, not a feature list.

06

Ideation

Sketches, concepts, workshops and explorations.

07

Design

Wireframes, user flows, interaction design and high-fidelity screens.

08

Iteration

How the design changed once real people got their hands on it.
